stuff -- List for general Internet Stuff

About stuff
English (USA)

What's it all about?

This is an email mailing list specifically for those funny, interesting, annoying and generally strange things you get via email these days. You quite like them and maybe want to pass them on to others, but then you're not sure who would already have seen them. The idea is, that if they have been on this mailing list, then the people on this list will indeed have already seen them.

What are the Rules?

Rule 1 - There is no Rule 1

Rule 2 - See Rule 1

Rule 3 - The Moderator is Right.

The sanction for breaking the spirit or letter of these simple rules is either a quiet word to the wise or summary removal from the list.

Rule 4 - No Porn

This is not to say that there should be no adult material, this list is definitely not "office safe", but nothing that would need an R18 certificate. Boobs and Bums are ok, anything more and you're off the list.

Rule 5 - Nothing bigger than 1 MegaByte

Most of the stuff that gets circulated is well below this size. There are still people using dial up modems, which take a great deal of time to download messages of this sort of size. If you have something you wish to share and it is bigger than this, then I'm afraid you will have to put it up on a web site yourself and then send round the link. Most people have web space as part of their ISP subscription, you'll just have to learn how to use it.

Rule 6 - No HTML email

Well actually, this is more a warning than a rule. If you send a mail in "Rich Format" or whatever else it might be called, then it will be stripped down to plain old text before being sent on to the list members. This is to make this mailing list as safe as possible.

Rule 7 - No private conversations

You may well know one or two list members, you may know quite a few. You do not, however, know all of them. Private in jokes between a minority of members is just divisive and a waste of time and bandwidth. If you want to say something back about something that was posted on the list, then address your reply email to the ones you want to read it and send.

Rule 8 - No personal attacks

This is intended as a friendly mailing list for funny and interesting stuff. If you don't like something you see on the list, then either come back with something funny and/or interesting in response, or just hit delete. Any personal attacks will result in removal.

Rule 9 - See Rule 3

How do I subscribe?

If you agree with the above and you want to subscribe, then please scroll down to the "Subscribing to stuff" section below and fill in your name and email address. The mailing list system will then send you an email with a title something like
"confirm cc89a6ad282750a8605e873463c5a2c312777f0e"
please do what this mail says to complete your subscription.

Cheers
